Job Description:

Our client is looking for a Senior Accountant. You will manage the general ledger and monthly closing process. You will also handle account reconciliations and internal financial reporting. This role requires you to review financial results. You will find and fix errors or unusual activity. You will prepare clear supporting documents. You will also improve accounting processes. The Senior Accountant will help with reporting for client reinsurance programs. This is a hands-on role for an experienced accountant. You should be able to work alone and use good judgment. You should also suggest solutions to the Chief Financial Officer.

 

Responsibilities of the role:

• Manage the monthly close checklist and complete tasks on time.

• Prepare and keep balance sheet reconciliations with clear support.

• Research and fix any differences in reconciliations quickly.

• Review balance sheets and income statements for reasonableness and unusual activity.

• Identify needed corrections and explain significant changes.

• Maintain general ledger accuracy, including account mapping and intercompany activity.

• Prepare internal management schedules and variance analyses.

• Support accounting for contract liabilities, claims, commissions, and reinsurance.

• Strengthen accounting controls and document processes.

• Suggest improvements to increase accuracy and reduce manual work.

• Use QuickBooks Online, Excel, and Salesforce data to analyze information.

• Improve the efficiency and reliability of accounting workflows.

 

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• Five or more years of accounting experience, including month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.

• Strong knowledge of accrual accounting and U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.

• Ability to apply accounting judgment to new transactions.

• Ability to review financial statements and identify errors.

• Ability to research the cause of errors and recommend corrections.

• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.

• Experience with QuickBooks Online or another general ledger system.

• Ability to learn new systems and reporting tools quickly.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to document work and explain accounting issues.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.

• Equivalent relevant accounting experience will be considered.

• CPA or CMA certification is helpful but not required.

 

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in insurance, reinsurance, or automotive finance.

• Experience with vehicle service contracts or warranty administration.

• Experience with Salesforce.
