About the Company:
Our client operates as a California employer managing employment compliance and human resources operations.
Job Description:

Responsibilities of the role:
• Own California and federal employment compliance as employer of record, including wage and hour, overtime, meal and rest breaks, exempt versus non-exempt classification, and workplace postings.
• Write, update, and enforce human resources policies and the employee handbook so they stay current with California law and the co-employer model.
• Oversee new-hire onboarding end to end, including employment eligibility verification, background checks where required, offer and employment paperwork, and handoff into payroll.
• Oversee payroll formalities, including timekeeping accuracy, overtime flags, status changes, terminations, and corrections with the payroll provider.
• Manage leaves of absence, workers' compensation filings, and reasonable-accommodation documentation.
• Maintain audit-ready personnel files and human resources systems.
• Advise managers and employees on policy questions and escalate high-risk issues with a clear recommendation.
• Track required trainings, certifications, and compliance documentation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of human resources experience with a clear focus on employment compliance and operations, not recruiting.
• Strong working knowledge of California labor law, including wage and hour, overtime, meal and rest breaks, and personnel-file rules.
• Hands-on experience with employee onboarding formalities and payroll support or oversight.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience as employer of record, co-employer, professional employer organization, or in a regulated industry such as healthcare or disability services.
• Direct experience with California overtime, meal and rest break, and leave compliance.
• Familiarity with employment eligibility verification, E-Verify, and work-authorization edge cases.
• Human resources certification such as Professional in Human Resources, Senior Professional in Human Resources, SHRM Certified Professional, or SHRM Senior Certified Professional.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Personality:
• Comfortable explaining compliance decisions clearly.
• High discretion with confidential employee information.
Software & Tools:
