Job Description:

Our client is seeking a full-time Paralegal to support a solo attorney by managing daily legal tasks, assisting with case preparation, and providing reliable backup for client communications. The ideal candidate has strong English communication skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, and the willingness to learn processes specific to New Jersey criminal law through training provided by the attorney.

 

Responsibilities:

• Serve as backup coverage for answering incoming phone calls when the attorney is unavailable.

• Collect basic client information and schedule call-back times as needed.

• Draft basic legal documents such as orders and letters.

• Review discovery files and summarize relevant details or inconsistencies.

• Conduct basic legal research and produce simple legal writing assignments (e.g., mitigation letters).

• Assist with low-level administrative and organizational legal tasks.

• Support occasional social media, advertising, or bookkeeping-related tasks if aligned with experience and comfort level.

• Maintain high attention to detail and follow instructed formatting or procedural requirements.

 

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• Prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.

• Strong English communication skills, with the ability to handle phone calls confidently.

• Ability to learn new legal processes and adapt to the workflows of a U.S.-based attorney.

• Capable of reviewing legal documents and summarizing information clearly.

• Strong writing skills for drafting straightforward legal and non-legal documents.

 

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in criminal law (not required but beneficial).

• Experience performing basic legal research and drafting letters or summaries.

• Previous exposure to U.S. law firm processes.

• Ability to assist with simple administrative functions such as social media posting or basic bookkeeping tasks.

 

Personality:

• High attention to detail and accuracy.

• Strong work ethic and reliability.

• Learns quickly and adapts to new information.

• Patient, organized, and able to follow clear instructions.

• Professional and able to interact respectfully with clients over the phone.

 

Software & Tools:

• Standard office and document management tools (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).

• Phone/VOIP communication tools as required by the firm.

• Any additional tools provided or required by the attorney.

 

English Level:

Native, C2, C1

 

Schedule:

9am to 1pm EST

 

Salary and Benefits:
