Job Description:

Our client is looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer to own their data platform end-to-end. This role goes beyond traditional data engineering—it requires someone who has built and operated production systems where failures have real business consequences.

The ideal candidate understands that APIs can silently fail, duplicate writes, return stale data, or behave inconsistently, and proactively designs systems with auditing, reconciliation, monitoring, and idempotency built in from the start. Initially, you'll be responsible for building reliable data ingestion pipelines that pull Amazon Advertising data into BigQuery. Over time, you'll also help develop the infrastructure that safely writes changes back to live advertising accounts managing real client budgets.

 

Responsibilities of the role:

• Own the company's data platform and production data infrastructure end-to-end.

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines into BigQuery.

• Build reliable integrations with third-party APIs, including handling rate limits, pagination, retries, and eventual consistency.

• Design idempotent ingestion processes with reconciliation and audit capabilities.

• Build and maintain production-grade data models, datasets, and marts.

• Manage schema evolution, incremental processing, historical backfills, and data restatements.

• Implement data quality checks, monitoring, alerting, and operational observability.

• Optimize BigQuery performance and costs through efficient partitioning, clustering, and query design.

• Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to translate complex operational workflows into reliable systems.

• Help build the infrastructure that safely writes updates back to Amazon Advertising accounts while protecting customer data and budgets.

• Contribute to the long-term architecture for data, automation, and AI agent infrastructure.

 

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or Backend Engineering focused on data systems.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Google BigQuery, including partitioning, clustering, incremental models, permissions, dataset design, and cost optimization.

• Strong understanding of modern data engineering principles, including orchestration, idempotent loads, backfills, schema drift handling, monitoring, and data quality validation.

• Experience building production integrations with third-party APIs that include rate limiting, pagination, and eventual consistency.

• Proven ownership of production systems where incorrect writes or failures could impact customers, financial operations, or business-critical workflows.

• Experience designing resilient systems with retries, reconciliation, duplicate detection, audit trails, and failure recovery.

• Ability to work independently with ambiguous requirements and turn complex business problems into scalable technical solutions.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks.

• Experience working with Amazon Advertising API or Amazon SP-API.

• Background in AdTech, FinTech, payments, billing, marketplace platforms, logistics, or trading systems.

• Experience with AI agent tooling, MCP servers, or structured LLM workflows.

• Experience leading or helping define data platform architecture.
